Our Mission
Joe Torre, together with his wife Ali, started Safe At Home in 2002 to end the cycle of domestic violence and abuse through education— to create a world where every young person feels, safe, supported, and empowered.
Our Groundbreaking Margaret’s Place Model
Margaret’s Place—born of Joe’s own experience and named in honor of his mother—creates safe space in schools offering both trauma-informed intervention and prevention services for empowerment, education, and understanding. We teach every child what healthy relationships look like, how to care for themselves and each other, and how to support friends in need—so that everyone feels safer and braver in Margaret’s Place, at home, and wherever they go.
We have 30 Margaret’s Place sites serving K-12 students across three states and two international locations: New York City & Westchester, NY; Los Angeles, CA; Cincinnati, OH; Tahiti, French Polynesia
This year, we have reached over 28,000 children, and since our inception, we have directly served over 425,000 young people, their families, schools, and communities.
"Margaret’s Place is much more than a room. It’s a force in shaping who we are." - School Principal
"When my home wasn’t safe, Margaret’s Place made me feel safe." - Margaret’s Place Student

Joe's Story
Joe Torre is known over the world for his 60 year baseball career and as a nine-time All-Star, Hall of Famer, Broadcaster, Executive, and Manager of the Mets, Braves, Cardinals, Yankees, and Dodgers. Yet, despite his unparalleled success, Joe carried a heavy and secret burden—the childhood wounds of domestic violence. As Joe and his family came to terms with his experience, he and his wife, Ali, wanted to ensure that no child grew up as he did – feeling alone, afraid and ashamed.
"The kids may not bear our last name, but I think it’s still our responsibility to take care of them." - Joe Torre
