The Harriet Beecher Stowe House celebrates the life, family, and legacy of author and activist Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Who was Harriet?

During the 1830s and 1840s, Harriet developed her advocacy for abolitionist ideals here in Cincinnati while working as a teacher, writer, and mother. She saw injustice in society and decided to act. Her book, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, became a catalyst for changing public opinion on the issue of slavery.  Her voice woke the nation.   Harriet Beecher Stowe epitomizes the idea that the power of voice can change the world for the better.

What is the Harriet Beecher Stowe House?

In the 1940s, a diverse group of Cincinnatians recognized the potential of the Harriet Beecher Stowe House to serve as a community learning center and cultural beacon.  Now, after many decades, the site has once again become an important local civic landmark.   As we embark on an expansion of that vision, you have a remarkable opportunity to contribute to its success.
