Campbell County Historical and Genealogical Society

Campbell Countians have left an impact in every area of human interest.  Whether it is business, science, politics, the arts, or sports, there is a Campbell County story to tell. We have 4th & 5th generation family businesses, artists whose work is prominently displayed in renowned museums, sports people who have attained still unmatched records, military heroes, and people who have risked it all for social and political change in our country.  

We have also had our share of tragedies.  Be it fires, tornados, or floods, our people have responded to clean up, fix up, and find a way to move forward.  Their bravery and resilience are legendary.  

We feel a responsibility and an obligation to  honor and promote the legacies of these people, to share them and save them for future generations.

For the last 35 years the Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society has worked to collect and preserve the objects and documents that help to share all those stories.

Our current space is inaccessible (22 steps) to many and we are bulging at the seams.  We have been forced to store items in offsite locations and many other items are being held for us that we are unable to accept because of lack of space. Those items never get seen by the public.  

Our only option is to move to a new location that is more welcoming to the public and gives us the space to continue to grow and properly show and share our collections.  Without this new space, Campbell County artifacts and documents now stored in barns and basements and attics across the County may be dispersed to museums and repositories around the country.  These items need to stay here in Campbell County.

Our new location will allow us to create informative and interactive exhibits, enhance our Library collections, welcome field trips from local schools, organizations and senior clubs, conduct classes, and hold special events to promote the local history of our County.

As an all-volunteer operation, every cent of your generous donation is spent here in Campbell County and goes to fulfilling our mission statement and creating this treasure that everyone who calls Campbell County home will be proud of.  We thank you profusely.
