$1,000 Goal

Since 1971, Cancer Family Care has been known as the heart of cancer support in Greater Cincinnati. Our non-medical, psychosocial programs and services (those pertaining to the psychological/mental health and social impacts brought on by the disease) have been instrumental in providing information, education, hope, and comfort to community members dealing with cancer. We have a beneficial impact on more than 3,200 people each year.

Our mission is to strengthen the well-being and alleviate the suffering of children, adults, and families coping with cancer. Our goals are:

•    To help individuals improve management of cancer-related stress or the death of a loved one;

•    To help individuals get back to work and resume their normal lives more quickly;

•    To make individuals and families feel supported; and

•    To help individuals work toward staying mentally and emotionally healthy.

Programs

To carry out our mission and achieve these goals, we provide four core programs to cancer patients and their loved ones from throughout our community (Brown, Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren counties in Ohio and Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties in Northern Kentucky).

Here is a brief description of our programs:

•    The Center for Individual and Family Counseling: Provides support through private individual, couples, and family psychosocial counseling (patients’ mental health and psychological, emotional, and social wellbeing); education; support groups; advocacy; and information libraries. Support is from the time of diagnosis through treatment and recovery or bereavement. Counselors and social workers work closely with each individual/family to determine the counseling and supportive services plan that works best for them (note that CFC counsels an average of 1.49 family members per counseling case). Serves more than 1,000 individuals every year.

•    Treehouse Children’s Service: Services are available to children ages 5-18 who are coping with their own cancer, the diagnosis of a loved one, or the death of a loved one. Services can include individual, school group, or family counseling (or a combination of all three), as well as numerous supplemental educational programs (Camp Courage, Walking the Dinosaur). Serves more than 500 children and youth every year.

•    The Coping Connection: This telephone hotline (Monday-Friday, 8:30a-4:30p) is staffed by our counselors and social workers who are available to answer questions, offer guidance, make referrals, and provide crisis intervention for anyone coping with cancer. Serves more than 1,700 individuals every year.

•    Waddell Family Healing Hands Program: This program includes Tresses where free wigs and related hair accessories are given to cancer patients; Therapeutic Oncology Massage where free massage therapy is offered to cancer patients; and Healing Hands Therapy where free healing touch massage therapy is offered to cancer patients. Serves more than 500 individuals every year.
