We're Clothing Kids in Confidence

Give Like a Mother (GLAM) accepts gently used clothing and shoes from the community and uses these items to give material support to families experiencing economic hardship. We arrange these items in made-to-order clothing packs consisting of a week's worth of essentials: 5 outfits, a pair of shoes, a jacket or coat, pajamas, and 5 pairs of new socks and underwear. All clothing packs are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and families are able to receive assistance on a seasonal basis, ensuring that their children are adequately clothed for the weather outside. 

Founded in 2018, Give Like a Mother (GLAM) was created to bridge the gap between people who had things they no longer used and people who desperately needed those items. Drawing on her own life experiences, our founder set out to not only meet the functional need for seasonally appropriate clothing for children facing economic hardship, but to also provide each child with comfortable, well-fitting clothing items to give each the confidence needed to thrive in school and in life.  

For children and teens, clothing is a language through which they can find a sense of belonging, helping to build friendships and a social network. Without affordable, adequate, and appropriate clothing, children face unfair barriers and participate in life on an unequal playing field. By providing clothing free of charge and in a manner which underscores the importance and worth of each child who receives our help, our goal is to reduce ridicule, ensure safety, and promote positive experiences in school among the young people we serve.  

Clothing Assistance is Never "One Size Fits All"

GLAM serves babies, children, and teens (0-18) living in and around the Greater Cincinnati area. Our services are open to families residing in 21 counties in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. At GLAM, we know that clothing support is never "one size fits all." We strive to meet the needs of families experiencing a wide range of circumstances and take pride in having minimal barriers for families accessing our services. Our service focuses on meeting the unique needs of each child and family we serve.  

In contrast to the used-clothing distribution systems of second-hand or thrift stores, we provide these clothing items at no cost to the family. Within its first 5 years of operation, GLAM collected, screened, and gifted over 250,000 clothing items – representing a value of 1.4 million dollars' worth of gently used items distributed to local families in need. For those we serve, the support provided has allowed them relief that, as one mother told us, "I didn't have to choose between groceries or clothes for my kids." 

With only 4 dedicated staff, GLAM relies on the generous support we receive from our passionate and committed group of volunteers, businesses, charities, churches, and schools who donate items, host clothing drives, and give their time to help us meet the needs of vulnerable families in Southwest Ohio. As part of our mission, we are committed to community collaboration and connection. Annually, we donate over 80,000 pounds of clothing items that do not meet our needs or requirements to organizations like Matthew 25 Ministries and Free Store Foodbank who provide free material support, further extending the life of these items and ensuring they find a home with someone in need, rather than in a landfill.
