Life Learning Center's (LLC) mission is to deliver a holistic, integrated continuum of education and care to help 'at-risk' citizens reach their highest potential. The organization's vision is to build a caring and serving community by assisting people in learning, securing, and sustaining a better way of living through gainful employment. LLC focuses on barrier removal for individuals stuck in the cycle of poverty, substance use disorder (SUD), and incarceration, allowing them to be successful in all aspects of life. In addition, the organization serves as a focal point of resources for community-based recovery support, including peer support, a diverse array of recovery support groups, and life skills training necessary to live a life of purpose and intention.

Individuals come to LLC to regain a sense of meaning and purpose and to build back the dignity lost from past experiences. The agency's largest referral source is the justice system, meaning many enrollees come to LLC via controlled release directly from incarceration, arriving with only the clothing on their backs, unkempt and in desperate need of support.

In 2022, 65% of LLC program Candidates reported $0 monthly income at program onset—imposing barriers that make day-to-day activities exceptionally challenging. Expenses such as stable housing, transportation, childcare, clothing, medical needs, and even food are often unaffordable during this period of financial instability. For Candidates striving to complete the program and gain employment, housing instability casts a shadow of uncertainty over ambitions and aspirational dreams of creating a better life for themselves and their families. Alleviating housing concerns via short term monetary support is not just a matter of social justice; it's an investment in the future of people working to rewrite their narrative. It's a pivotal step towards breaking the cycle of poverty and enabling economic and social mobility for all.

LLC does what other social service agencies do not. The organization prides itself on giving “hand-ups,” not “handouts,” meaning LLC invests in people willing to work and invest in themselves. The Foundations for a Better Life™ program is approached with a commitment to holistic, comprehensive, transformational, and sustainable outcomes. The essential life skills training allows individuals to overcome barriers across five fundamental aspects of life: physical, financial, spiritual, emotional, and relational. Barriers in these spaces directly hinder an individual’s ability to generate an income for their family, leaving citizens “at-risk,” hopeless, and unemployable. While Candidates are in the program, a plethora of support services are dispersed as deemed appropriate. Without Care supports like food, clothing, hygiene items, etc. Candidates would not have the capacity to focus on LLC program completion. LLC delivers a lifeline to building dignity, self-discovery, and self-worth. Stable housing assistance is one tangible Care offering for how the organization can deliver on this value proposition.
