Sustainable Medical Missions

Recently, the Gates Foundation and Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation reported that “in just 25 weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic erased 25 years of world health achievements” by strangling and depleting vaccination delivery, shutting down access to the neediest   populations, and draining nations’ economic warehouses. Yet, there is a way forward, even in this dire and confusing time. SUSTAINABLE MEDICAL MISSIONS (Sustainable Med) continued its collaboration with neglected and disease-ridden countries through faith and medical leaders, community leaders and government leaders to create nimble, real-time networks that responded in this pandemic as well as the ongoing pandemic of Neglected Tropical Diseases (skin-invading Jiggers and life-robbing intestinal round worms) holding over 1 billion people in bondage. 

Sustainable Med empowers local leaders in the poorest and most neglected communities on the planet to transform the lives of their community members with training and resources to not only address but eradicate the diseases robbing children and families of health and productive lives.  Over 1.6 million people have been trained, treated and transformed over the past 7 years alone.  But, this is not accomplished through impersonal mass events.  This is done through an intentional process of training leaders who then train others.  While they use powerful models and methods that are the cutting edge of medicine in the US, they own and direct the solutions.  Thus, they are not asking those from the US to solve their problems.  They are only asking for small seed investments that will be matched 25 to 1 by the local people through their hundreds of thousands of hours of volunteer labor and provision of local goods to make the impossible now possible.
