The DAD Initiative was founded in 2014 to connect and engage African American children with African American male mentors and tutors. Our mission is to ready children, especially those of color, for a successful future by engaging students, families, and the communities they are a part of with quality programs, interactions, and experiences.
Our initial focus, and priority still, lies in the social and emotional development of African American youth. We believe that in order to achieve in any area, one must have the mindset that allows the learning process to happen. Our ecosystem approach takes into account the importance of a stable family environment and community to the overall success of a child. With that philosophy, The DAD Initiative grew from an organization with several successful years of training African American male mentors and servicing hundreds of young men, to offering expansive programing that includes 21st century career modules like coding and drone piloting, yearly STEAM summer camps, after school programing, and workforce development programs for parents in addition to its mentoring efforts.
