Our Friends & Family are the BEST!

Update posted 3 years ago

WOW! :)

Thank you just doesn't seem enough to say ~ however, THANK YOU!  What an impact you have each helped in making.  Not only did we surpass our goal, we are on the way to funding another school grief program.  Our family is blessed beyond measure...and have a renewed spirit.  The tree lights seem even brighter today!

For COJ, although we didn't 'win' the bonus prize, we won so much more!   Collectively we raised nearly $9,000 (of which roughly 1/3 was from YOU) which is an all time high for a single day of on-line giving.  So many of you were first time donors too.

Now that the whirlwind of that bonus is over, I sincerely hope that you can take a quick break for yourself and really learn a bit more about COJ and the grief support work that we do.  ALL of know someone right now who is grieving, and for many of us it may be ourselves who are grieving.  Loss doesn't just come from death ~ as we have learned all too well this year.  There is hope though and we all deserve that.   And, when we find it are called to share it with others.

We Love you dear friends, and thank you for sharing your love in abundance with us.  Happy Thursday!  (Wait a minute......it's only Thursday?!!!!)

How Companions on a Journey (COJ) Helped Us.....

Many of you may know, it was just over two years ago that our nephew Dillon died so unexpectedly.  His loss for me was difficult in so many ways, especially that he had his own partner, parents, siblings ~ how could I grieve as just his aunt? What could I do to support them?  And my own family - his cousins?  COJ helped.  A lot.

What you may not know, is that our first introduction to COJ was during our middle son Michael's sophomore year of high school when he lost a dear friend to suicide. Thankfully, COJ was present at his high school to provide crisis support and ongoing grief group support for him and many classmates.  He learned so much and it was clear to me that there was a lot to be learned about "healthy grief".

Fast forward several years, and it's incredible how much I have learned and tried to share with my family.  Knowing we will each experience grief throughout our lives, and always uniquely, makes it even more important to me to learn and share.  Just as each member of our family is from the same gene pool (at least the kids!), and raised in the same environment, we are each our own person.  Learning that there is no "one way" or "right way" to grieve is invaluable.

Still having much to learn, I find that I do better at providing support on some days, more than others.  Sometimes we just get hung up on "what should or shouldn't  I say"?  There is so much to learn about grief.  Even little 'nuggets' of learning go a long long way in the world of grief.

It is essential that those who are already skilled have the funding they need to continue to support the children, families and adults who are hurting; and to continue educating the rest of us.  That is why today I am asking each of you to make a donation ~ even just a $5 donation will have an impact.  Really.

Just keep reading if you are interested in knowing how or just more about COJ.

And, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  ~ Jeanne

Last year, 49% of students who participated in COJ school-based support groups had experienced the death of a parent, and 58% had suffered the death of an immediate family member (parent or sibling).

In Ohio, it’s estimated that 1 in 11 children and teens will experience the death of a parent or sibling by their 18th birthday. In the counties that Companion on a Journey serves, currently 18,680 children and 41,940 young adults have suffered the death of a parent.

The Need is Great.  This is where YOU and I come in.

Through OUR generous support of Companions on a Journey, we can provide bereaved children, teens and adults with a safe space to process feelings of grief and loss, connect with a caring community of peers, and strengthen critical wellness and resiliency skills. Our support allows COJ to help each person navigate their grief journey; discovering their new normal as they move forward.

Join me TODAY by donating in honor of my family who is sharing the holiday in heaven especially Dillon, Graggie and Poppie.  Thank You for helping me give back to COJ - they mean the world to me and so do you!
